As we begin the transition from summer to fall we can experience some resistance or find it challenging. I know for myself I have a difficult time letting go of summer. For some, this shift will bring on a more structured or new routine. We may spend more time in doors and get less sunlight.
With this change we are reminded to slow down, the days are shorter and we start to feel the cooler air making its way in.
With this shift in seasons, how can we support ourselves: mind and body, to transition with ease?
How can we adapt to nature's natural cycles and go with the flow?
3 ways to support your mind and body during this transition:
Nourishing your body with cleansing and seasonal foods is essential during this time.
The fall is a perfect time to cleanse our body from toxins, pollutants, pesticides, chemicals, and excess ama (toxic residue) that our body has stored from the summer.
Eliminate or greatly reduce processed foods and alcohol. Drink plenty of water and eat food that doesn't come in a package.
If it's made in a lab, it takes a lab to digest.
Eat cooling fruits such as apples, pears, melons, and cantaloupe to help your body remove any excess any summer heat that may have accumulated.
Select heartier root vegetables such as sweet potatoes, beet, winter squash as well as avocados, tomatoes, red peppers, cooked onions and garlic, brown rice, almond, cashew butter, macadamia nuts, organic chicken, and wild caught salmon (if you eat meat).
Add pro-biotic rich foods to help restore your gut flora by adding more good bacteria.
Kimchi, sauerkraut and kombucha are all great options.
Signs you may need a cleanse:
* Low energy
* Weight loss resistance
* Skin conditions such as acne
* Food Allergies
2: SLOW DOWN
Reducing your stress load and making more time for self-care is one of the most important elements. Habitual rushing, multitasking, and dealing with information overload creates toxic overload for the mind. And like an overtaxed liver, an overtaxed mind and nervous system can lead to an array of health issues, including adrenal fatigue, insomnia, irregular menstrual cycles, indigestion, and weight gain.
So what is the first step in reducing the toxicity created by an overloaded life?
During the next week, adjust your schedule so you have time to prepare and eat your meals in a relaxed manner, practice yoga, journal, breathe. This is a great time for more introspection, getting quiet and back to or creating a meditation practice.
Make self-care a priority and say no to outside influences that can pull your energy in so many different directions.
When you start to make more time for you and healthy choices you'll begin to tune in to your body's natural rhythms and cleanse more effectively. You'll feel grounded and find that your are able to "go with the flow" no matter what changes come your way.
3: CLEANSING YOGA
Specific yoga poses can aid in the detoxification process.
Belly compression, inversions and twisting can help move toxins from your tissues through your lymphatic and digestive systems so that they can be eliminated from the body.
In addition, restorative poses, relax the nervous system, turn on your REST + DIGEST system, and help settle the body - which is especially important during and after a detox cleanse.
Restorative poses will also help bring you into a state of receptivity and allowing that's perfect for the season. The poses work the nervous system and on chronic stress. It peels stress away layer by layer and prevents burn out, disease, being reactive, anger, and depression.
One bonus tip is to support your immune system against seasonal threats.
I love using my doTERRA therapeutic-grade essential oils to support my immune system and gut-health (70% of your immune system is in your gut).
My favorite immune and digestive health boosting essential oils are:
On Guard under my tongue or rubbed on the bottom of my feet to boost immunity. You can also diffuse this blend to clean + purify your home and give you a boost if feeling run down.
Cinnamon bark contains strong cleansing + immune support properties AND supports healthy metabolic function. I add this to my smoothie or diffuse.
Peppermint to promote digestive health. Love adding it to my chocolate smoothie!
Lemon which naturally cleanses the body and aids digestion. The oil comes from the peel where most of the antioxidants are. Plus it stimulates the breakdown of fats.
I love adding it to my water every morning and/or throughout the day!
DigestZen my go to blend if I ate a little too much. 2 drops under my tongue and voila! Instant relief. Also amazing for bloating - rub on your belly with fractionated coconut oil.
